人类活动造成的非有意引进物种以空前的速度增加，一旦这些引入物种定居下来，它们几乎不可能被根除。因此，确定和监测入侵物种更容易定居并形成新种群的地域就非常重要。

张润志研究员领导的外来物种鉴定与控制研究组，利用我国2008年以前发现的166种以农林有害生物为主的非有意引进入侵物种的相关资料，从“首发地”（我国第一次发现的地点，first detection location，FDL）的角度分析了省级区域的分布规律。结果发现，入侵物种首发地数量在各省区间随着对外商贸活动的不同而变化很大，沿海经济发达省区入侵物种首发地明显多于内陆省区。辽宁、北京、天津、河北、山东、江苏、上海、浙江、福建、广东、广西和海南等12省区的土地面积仅占全国的15.6%，而入侵物种首发地所占比例却高达74.6%。各个省区的对外贸易额等作为“物种引入压力”的指标，可以直接反映出入侵物种首发地数量的多少。

早期发现在入侵物种的防控中具有非常重要的意义。“首发地”新方法的使用，为国家监测机构确定新入侵物种最容易定居的地理位置、更及时有效地防控新的入侵物种提供了科学依据；同时，证实“物种引入压力”是决定新引进物种首次发现地点最重要的因素之一，间接说明了经济高速发展是造成外来物种入侵的重要原因。“首发地”方法不仅适用于中国的生物入侵防控，对其他国家也有重要参考价值。结果发表在2012年2月21日在线出版的PLoS ONE。该项研究得到国家自然科学基金项目、中科院重点项目和科技部项目的资助。论文第一作者黄顶成博士，目前在中国科学院研究生院国际合作处工作。
